Google Local Services Ads management

Local Services Ads can put an eligible business at the top of Google when someone searches for a local service, and you pay per lead instead of per click. Rank 4 Local sets up, manages and improves Google Local Services Ads accounts for local businesses across the US, and ties them into the rest of your local presence.

Is Local Services Ads the right place to start?

It suits some businesses better than others. The deciding factors are your category, how fast you answer, and whether you can pass Google's screening.

Usually a strong fit

  • Your service is one of the categories Google offers in Local Services Ads.
  • Someone can answer calls and messages quickly during business hours.
  • You serve a clearly defined area and know which job types you want.
  • You can provide what Google's screening asks for in your category, such as licenses or insurance.

Probably not the first step

  • Your category isn't offered. Local Google Search Ads may fit better.
  • Calls regularly go unanswered. Google says missed calls can hurt how often you're shown.
  • Your Business Profile isn't verified yet. Google requires one for every advertiser, so start with Business Profile management.

What's included

What we handle in your Local Services Ads account

  1. 01

    Account setup or review

A new account, or a close look at the one you already run: eligibility, categories and settings.

  2. 02

    Service configuration

Only the job types you actually want. Google no longer credits leads for job types you don't serve, so this setting costs money when it's wrong.

  3. 03

    Service-area configuration

The areas you really cover. Leads from outside your area aren't credited either.

  4. 04

    Budget strategy

How much to spend and how to bid. Your bid is the most you'll pay for a lead, and you may pay less.

  5. 05

    Lead and performance monitoring

Tracking lead volume, lead quality and cost, so decisions are based on what's actually coming in.

  6. 06

    Ongoing optimization and recommendations

Adjustments as the market, competition and your capacity change, and clear advice on what to change next.

What Google charges you for

With Local Services Ads you pay when a customer contacts you through the ad. Knowing which contacts count as a lead helps you set a realistic budget.

Why this matters

Google shows Local Services Ads based on a mix of your bid and how likely you are to produce a good lead. A higher bid alone won't make up for slow replies or a thin profile.

That's why we look at the ad account alongside your Google Maps presence, your reviews, your website and the way your team handles leads.

Getting Google Verified

Every advertiser goes through Google's screening. The checks depend on your category and can include business and owner checks, license checks, proof of insurance and a verified Business Profile.

  1. Check eligibility

Confirm your category and area are offered in Local Services Ads.

  2. Preliminary screening

Google reviews basics such as licensing or registration, reviews, billing and budget.

  3. Early ads, where allowed

Some categories can run ads before the badge. Google excludes others, including garage door, healthcare and locksmiths.

  4. Full verification

Complete onboarding to earn the Google Verified badge.

Steps as described in Google Local Services help. Timing depends on your account, Google's verification and your category.

How we run your account

Timing depends on your account status, Google's verification requirements, your industry and your market.

  1. 1

    Review

  2. 2

    Configure

Local Services Ads questions

Do I pay Rank 4 Local or Google for the leads?

You pay Google directly for your Local Services Ads leads. Our management is a separate service, and we don't publish prices, so the free growth assessment is the place to start that conversation.

What happened to the Google Guaranteed badge?

Google has folded its earlier badges, including Google Guaranteed and Google Screened, into a single Google Verified badge. Google has also discontinued the Money Back Guarantee that came with the old Google Guaranteed badge.

Can I get credited for a bad lead?

Google assesses each lead when the customer first gets in touch and doesn't charge for ones it judges invalid. Leads you were charged for are reviewed again, and Google may credit them automatically, typically within 30 days. Watching lead quality is part of our monitoring.

Can you guarantee a top spot or a number of leads?

No. Approval, badge status, ranking position, lead volume and cost per lead depend partly on Google, your competitors and how customers behave, so no honest agency can promise them.
